Understanding the Essentially a Copy Prohibition The Federal Food, Drug, & Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) prohibits 503A compounding pharmacies from regularly compounding, or compounding in inordinate amounts, any drug products that are essentially copies of a commercially available drug product.
