Blackthorn print Tove Jansson The Summer BookBlackthorn is the first in a series of solar plate etchings focusing on the hedgerow. The portrait format reflects the idea that each print will be a portrait of a plant or tree. The Prussian blue gives the unintentional appearance of a cyanotype. Hedgerow also reflects my interest in environmental issues: the way that hedgerows were ripped out in the 1950s to make way for intensive farming which subsequently led to loss of habitat and biodiversity.
